Achieving Youthfulness With Your Local South Tampa Hair Salon

December 15th, 2009 hair extensions No comments

Most trend-followers look up to celebrities when deciding on a change of hair style. But one of the gravest mistakes one can make  is adopting a certain style that does not fit them. After all, a good look for one person may be disastrous for another, and so, careful thought and consultation with a professional is always a wise move when upgrading your look. The haircuts that prevailed for 2009 have rather taken the road of simplicity. The natural look is a hit for many of Hollywood’s most well-known faces like Kim Kardashian and Beyonce Knowles. These women went all-naturalé by flaunting long,  wavy tresses. They also opted for more subdued colors like chestnut brown or honey blonde hues. If you want to get this look but have short hair, do not despair. Hair extensions provide a convenient alternative for those who are currently growing their hair. However, since hair extensions come in an array of styles in terms of color, thickness, and method of use, it is better to schedule an appointment with your stylist to find out which best suits you. . Th pixie style haircut has also been the rave of this year. It’s hip, fresh, and is the antithesis of the long and flowing hair. Celebrities who went short this year were Eva Longoria, Katie Holmes, and Victoria Beckham. This particular look is simple yet edgy, subtle but very chic. But before cutting it all off, one has to take note that even though it seems like it’s a wash-and-wear hair style, it’s actually harder to manage and maintain. Styling short hair requires more tools and hair products to keep it in place and to give it that versatility.  Styling your short hair can take only five minutes with today’s options on hair tools and products. Fine hair would need the use of a good volumizing agent to give body to your hair. Be careful when buying any kind of hair product because some of the chemicals manufacturers use may be too harsh for fine hair. Paul Mitchell is actually a reliable brand and a good investment for any kind of hair product, be it long, short, fine, coarse, men’s or women’s. You can try other lines but professional stylists will tell you to choose and invest on the more familiar and tested ones so you know what’s being applied on to your hair.If your entire look is your problem, then maybe a nice makeover is what you need. It’s good to pamper yourself once in a while and a little fine tuning on one’s appearance may be the better (and cheaper) alternative for plastic surgery to shave a few years off your tired and aged look. Treat yourself to a nice and relaxing makeover starting with a little hair treatment to revive your hair. Couple this treatment with a more youthful hair color. If you have already colored it before, salons now offer a color correction procedure to adjust the tone of your hair when it has turned dull or is too dark for you. TIGI products have been tested to safely and effectively give your hair just the right amount of dimension and boldness during the color correction process.Tending to your nails is also as important as caring for your hair. After all, our hair and nails are composed of the same thing—keratin. Treating yourself to a good manicure and pedicure allows your makeover to fix the smaller details of your look. A basic manicure is required at least once a week. This is the best way to keep your hands looking clean and healthy. A pedicure does the same with one’s feet. It is also another way of keeping your feet free from corns, ingrown nails, and fungus–which are never attractive. Top off your makeover with a  waxing procedure to get rid of unwanted and unsightly hair on your upper lip, brows, underarms, legs, and bikini area. Shaving your legs and armpits can put a strain on the appearance of your skin. Waxing, when done by a professional, will leave the waxed area smooth and silky. The fine texture on your skin after a good wax can last up to a month. There is also no risk of skin damage and you can be sure to grow finer and softer body hair after regular of visits to your favorite hair salon in South Tampa.

For dry hair and scalp, you have a choice of hair treatments, from all natural hair treatments you can do at home to professional hair treatments done at a reputable hair salon in South Tampa.Apple cider vinegar is one of the natural home remedies for brittle hair and dry scalp. It is said to remove dead skin cells on the scalp, as well as the residue of hair products, unclogging hair follicles. It is believed to have the ability of restoring the natural PH balance of the scalp. One cup of apple cider vinegar should be diluted in one cup of water. This mixture should be poured over dry hair and massaged into the scalp for two to three minutes. It should then be rinsed off completely. The process should be repeated weekly for the maintenance of a clear scalp and the prevention of dry hair.Gelatin is another popular all natural home remedy for dry hair. The protein content of gelatin moisturizes and strengthens hair while thickening and softening its strands at the same time. This is also said to hasten hair growth. One pack of unflavored colorless gelatin should be added to and dissolved in one 15 ounce bottle of mild shampoo that can be used daily.Olive oil is also well known as an all natural moisturizer. In fact, it has been an age old cleanser and moisturizer for both skin and hair. There are several types of olive oil but the least processed extra virgin olive oil is considered to be the most effective.A half cup of extra virgin olive oil should be heated in the microwave for not more than 20 to 30 seconds, making sure the oil does not get to boiling point. Check if the oil is not too hot and apply it to the scalp and to hair from roots to ends before bedtime. Cover the head with a shower cap and sleep with it on. The oil should be shampooed out upon waking in the morning.Still another all natural oil that is beneficial to dry hair and scalp is flaxseed oil, with its high content of vitamin E and essential fatty acids. It is touted to encourage healthy growth of hair.Capsules of flaxseed oil which can be bought from health food shops should be punctured. The oil should be pinched out and applied to the scalp and roots of the hair, followed by a thorough massage to allow the oil to be absorbed well. Allow the oil to stay for 15 minutes before shampooing it out.Sometimes, improper use of hair color causes dry hair and dry scalp. Color correction at a professional hair salon in South Tampa should not only fix the color of your hair but also its condition. Professional hair treatments from respected brands such as Paul Mitchell and TIGI also correct various hair and scalp problems. You can get more than just Paul Mitchell and TIGI hair treatments at your favored hair salon in South Tampa. Once your hair is restored to health, you can get proper hair color that is not damaging. You can then get a haircut that will give you a choice of several trendy or classic hair styles. If you prefer longer hair styles this time, you can opt for hair extensions.Sometimes, hair needs to be eliminated from certain body parts. This is where waxing comes in. Ask your hair salon in South Tampa for their waxing services, as well.Your hair salon in South Tampa need not be confined to offering only services for your hair, though. You can further extend your self pampering by getting a manicure and a pedicure. Now you can truly feel beautiful from head to toe.

Finding the Right Hair Salon in South Tampa

December 13th, 2009 hair extensions No comments

Have you had problems finding the right hair salon in South Tampa? Make sure that the salon you choose gives a precision haircut with the latest downtown hair styles, as well as professional color treatments. If you use extensions, or you want to experiment with them, you should ask about the salon’s expertise in this area, as well.

I personally want to go to just one place to have everything done, and this includes a manicure and a pedicure and, if possible, waxing services.

I found a new salon that offers all these and more. Salon Monaco is not just a hair salon in South Tampa, but is a spa, as well, offering various esthetician services.

If you simply need a haircut with a shampoo and a blow dry, you can be in and out quick. There are various hair styles to choose from, for short hair, medium length hair or long hair. You can bring your boyfriend or husband, too, since they also do men’s haircuts. If you happen to be a mom, you’ll be happy to know that they can do children’s haircuts, also with a blow dry.

For your hair color needs, they do permanent and semi-permanent coloring. They can do full color in one tone, retouch, retouch with partial highlights or retouch with refreshing of ends. Highlighting can be full, partial or in slices, with one, two or three tones. This can be followed by a separate conditioning treatment.

If you want to have your hair straightened, the non-chemical Keratin Complex Hair therapy eliminates curl and frizz, leaving only smooth, shiny and healthy hair. If, on the other hand, you long for bouncy curls, Salon Monaco can give you permanent waves. For less permanent changes, they can give you hair extensions, instead.

When that special occasion arises – a prom, wedding or formal function – ask for an elegant updo from the salon’s hair stylists. This requires an appointment and consultation, though.

Rest assured that only the best hair care, color and styling products are used for all your hair needs. These include Paul Mitchell hair products and TIGI. Your new look will definitely go well with your perfect manicure and pedicure.

Waxing is one of the salon’s many spa services. You can opt for full face waxing or just have your brows, chin or upper lip done. For the body, you can have your underarms, arms, legs, back, chest, belly or bikini area waxed.

Other spa services include skin treatments and facials. You can even have a “Backcial” or the same facial treatment on your back, with deep cleansing, exfoliation, massage and moisturizing. This eliminates “bacne” or acne on the back, and is quite a treat considering how difficult it is to reach your own back.

Dermalplaning is one of the basic skin treatments you can choose, in which a straight edge blade is used painlessly to exfoliate dry and dead skin cells on the face. This treatment not only rejuvenates environmentally damaged skin leaving it soft and smooth, but also eliminates fine facial hair.

The Skin Glow Treatment is Dermalplaning with the added benefit of an enzyme or natural acid application. This refines and nourishes all skin types.

Other facials include the Gentle Calming Facial, Oxygen Facial, Discoloration Facial and the Signature Facial which even includes a very thorough and relaxing hand, arm and foot massage.

There are also several peels available, namely, the Zesty Orange Peel, Mango Peel and Vitamin A Peel. Peels use natural exfoliating granules from organic sources in an emollient base.

Salon Monaco is located at 2907 W. Kennedy Boulevard, Tampa, FL, inside Monaco Boutique.

Home Improvement 101 – Painting Tips

How To Paint Home Painting Tips

Color is used to influence how the size of the room feels

The desired Effect

Your Color Choice

Expand space? Use cool, light, or dull colors; minimal contrasts

Shrink space? Include warm, dark, or bright colors; maximum contrasts

Lower ceiling? Try warm colors and dark tones

Raise ceiling? Use cool colors and light tints

Shorten room? Best to use warm or dark colors

Lengthen room? Cool, light, or dull colors; limited contrasts

Hide an undesirable feature? Surrounding color

Tip: Prime Mistake With 5 coats of paint on the wall a person asked his paint supply store why he couldn’t cover the stains on the wall. ” Did you prime” he was asked? “Yes – I used some leftover latex from the garage”. It was explained that latex paint isn’t primer. Primer provides bonding and stain blocking. Paint provides durability and color. Both are needed for a good job. Original “Kiltz” primer dries quickly and has been found to be one of the most stain blockers. Stain Blockers absorb instead of covering up the stain – so be sure the primer is completely dry to prevent bleed through.

Tip: Don’t like the Dust from sanding drywall Mud? Use a drywall wet-sander (Sponge with abrasive on one side) . With a damp sponge – use the coarse side for sanding and the fine side for smoothing. Wood Window painted shut? Try applying the paint to the window and the sash in separate processes. It is recommended to remove the sash when possible. Use a utility knife or sash knife to cut the paint before opening the window.

Tip: Break Time? Place Brush or roller in a plastic bag.

Break Time overnight? Double Bag and place in your refrigerator.

Tip: Painting a large area like a entire home? Sprayer Rentals are available for minimal $.

Tip: Paint Roller extension handle. It extends and is adjustable.

Brushes and Rollers

Selecting the right brushes and rollers is a crucial step in making your paint jobs look better while helping you to do your work more easily and efficiently.

Brushes : So many sizes and styles – How Do I Choose?
:-) Like anything in life knowledge is they key. If you are like myself this might seem like too much information. However – It is the little things that make the work go smoothly. Much of what has been learned here has been learned the hard way. I will try to share with you what has been learned from my mistakes along with tips from painters and the help of Sherwin-williams.

A paint brush is an ideal choice when painting trim, corners and small areas. Also, a specialty paint brush should be used for projects like painting furniture, decks and railings.

When selecting a brush, you will want to consider the following :

Bristle Type -

Nylon and polyester bristle: These synthetic materials are designed to hold their shape with todays popular latex paints. A good quality nylon and polyester blended brush is the best choice for all latex paints and coatings. Many painters prefer a synthetic brush for oil coatings as well.

Natural China bristle:High-quality natural China bristle brushes have qualities that control oil-based coatings for better flow and leveling for the smoothest finish. A natural China bristle brush is the best choice for oil-based paints, stains and varnishes

Brush Styles:

Angle sash: Bristles are precisely trimmed at an angle that allows painters to hold the brush more comfortably while painting trim and corners. Brush ends are rounded for a smooth , gradual paint stroke.

Trim:

Trim brushes have a straight cut-line and are also used for painting trim and corners. They can also be used for larger areas. Some painters prefer a straight edge versus an angled cut. Trim brushes also have rounded ends.

Wall: A wall brush is a larger brush with a straight cut-line. It is better used for larger areas like walls or side paneling. A wall brush has square ends.

Brush Size : Personal preference is always a factor in choosing a brush width, but a good rule of thumb is For small spaces, tight trim areas, touch-ups and detail work 2 1/2 to 3 inches: For any trim and corner work 4 to 5 inches: For larger areas like walls or side paneling a roller may come in handy or use a good Brush Quality.

You made it this far! You are incredible! Thanks for reading – really hope this helps.

Better brushes bring better results.

High Production Brushes: These brushes are recommended for painters looking for superior paint pick-up and release. High Production brushes deliver great results in less time. They pick-up and release more than 25 percent more paint than any other brush on the market. High Production brushes are available in a nylon/polyester blend for latex coatings and in a white China/polyester blend for oil-based coatings.

Nylon/Polyester and 100% Nylon Brushes:

A specific blend of nylon and polyester filaments make this brush a fine finishing tool that is very durable and easy to clean. The white nylon tips are precisely flagged and tapered for a sharp cut-line. These characteristics have made this line the most popular choice for latex paints for the past 15 years. Although nylon is a soft material, it is also the strongest and most expensive material in a paint brush. 100 percent nylon brushes offer extreme durability, even when used on rough or abrasive surfaces. 100 percent nylon brushes are finished using several hand-trimming steps to create a superior cut-in paint brush.

Black and White China Bristle Brushes:

By nature, Black China bristle is stronger and thicker coarse hair, which makes it the perfect bristle to use with oil-based paints and epoxies. The highest quality Black China bristles available are used in the Contractor Series line. White China bristle, by contrast, is soft and thin. A white China bristle brush is the perfect tool for stain, varnishes, polyurethanes and clear coatings. It lays these topcoats on with a glass-smooth finish. White China bristle brushes are suitable for oil-based paints if a softer flex tool is desired.

Black China / Ox Hair Blend Brushes: Ox hair is extremely fine and soft, creating an exceptional tool for fine finish work.

Roller Covers: Rollers help you paint large, flat surfaces in much less time than a brush. They are also excellent for use on all walls, stucco, concrete or any other flat surface.

Here are some options to consider when purchasing a roller cover:

Roller Cover Materials:

Nylon/polyester:

Synthetic roller covers are ideal for applying latex paints, They resist matting and hold their shape for a smooth finish.

Natural fiber covers: Roller covers that are made from natural fiber include mohair and lambs wool. They are ideal for oil-based coatings.

Blended covers: Roller covers made from a blend of natural and synthetic fibers are excellent multipurpose covers and can be used with all paints.

Roller Length: Standard roller length is nine inches.

For smaller areas, a four-inch or seven-inch roller cover. Larger area – walls & floors, 14-inch & 18-inch rollers may increase productivity.

Pile Depth : Roller covers vary in nap length.

The nap is determined by the SuRfaCe TeXtUrE to be painted.

1/4-inch, 3/16-inch: For very smooth surfaces like metal doors and plaster. 3/8-inch, 1/2-inch: For smooth and semi-smooth surfaces like drywall. 3/4-inch: For semi-rough surfaces like wood or a textured ceiling. 1-inch, 1 1/4-inch: For rough surfaces like stucco or a heavily textured ceiling. 1 1/2-inch: For extremely rough surfaces like concrete block.

Roller Quality As with brushes, the initial extra investment in higher quality rollers and covers will pay off in the final look and ease of application. Lesser quality roller covers may leave streaks or nap fibers on the painted surface.

Polyester Knit: Specially formulated for today is latex coatings. The highly crimped fibers offer the best protection against matting. Soft Woven: Rivals polyester knit in popularity. Recommended for both latex and oil coatings, they do a fine job with gloss and semi-glass coatings. Wool/Polyester Knit: Fifty percent of the roller cover fiber is natural wool, which allows for greater paint pick up and delivery. Fifty percent is polyester, which helps the roller keep its shape during prolonged use. The blend results in an excellent balance of productivity and low matting. Merino Sheepskin: Pick up and release more paint than any other roller cover. Many painters use Merino Sheepskin exclusively for any type of coating, claiming it lasts a long time with proper care. Mohair: Features a blend of soft natural angora mohair with synthetic fibers to produce the smoothest finish possible with a roller cover. Recommended for use with gloss and high gloss coatings. Brushes & Rollers Portions of above material was edited material from Paint Supplier http://www.sherwin-williams.com/

Tip: Painting Straight Lines is one of the hardest things to master. A Painting Edger may be used. When this edger is used two problems often occur. Bumps of Ceiling Texture are hit making a crooked line or paint gets on the edge of the roller. To prevent both of these problems place a painters metal shield or a straight trowel with tape over the edge against the ceiling. Your roller now rolls freely and if paint was on the roller it will go onto your trowel instead of the ceiling! (Stiff Paper or thin cardboard may substitute the trowel)

Tip 2: Using tape instead of the above method. Place the tape down the wall one eighth of an inch. When the tape is removed it will look like a caulk line and will not be noticed! If the paint is on the ceiling however It stands out! Remember to remove the tape immediately. Painter Friendly Tape is very deceitful. Seven Day tape should really stay on Seven minutes. One day is the max for any tape.

Fall Hair Color and Color Care Tips

November 19th, 2009 hair extensions No comments

Some people like to change the color of their hair as often as the seasons change. “Fall hair” is the look to aim for since it is just a few weeks away. According to celebrity hair stylists, bold and solid colors are the theme of the season. Since the weather won’t be as hot and the sun often shies away during the remaining months of the year, your complexion will most likely turn a little paler than normal. To make sure you avoid from looking worn and drab, update your hairstyle and hair color by choosing solid and warmer shades. If you’re a brunette, it is recommended that you stay that way. You can go darker if you want to, just try to stay away from shades of blonde if you are originally a brunette. Go for auburn, amber, or golden brown hues.Blondes can go for the natural look (like Jennifer Aniston or Kate Hudson) or full fake-but-glamorous, Marilyn Monroe style. Whichever direction you choose to go, the important detail to remember is to have depth at the roots. Giving depths to roots helps your hair color blend with your skin tone so you won’t look way off. A hair treatment called color correction can help you adjust to the right shade. This also means you won’t have to have all of your hair colored. If you have bold streaks or highlights, better get rid of them or tone them down using color correction. Random highlights should only add dimension and texture to hair and not make it seem like you just came out from a punk hair salon. Also, if you plan on having extensions, make sure it’s the exact shade of your hair, or at least one shade darker or lighter than your real hair.Copper undertones for redheads is the in thing for fall. They can also choose shades of strawberry blonde or dark auburn. It all depends, again, on your complexion. Don’t move too far from your original color. Minimal changes are the only requirements for a new look. After getting that new shade of hair, what’s left to do (aside from a wardrobe update) is to maintain the color. Here are a few tips to keep your hair from turning dull.Choose reliable hair color products. (ex: L’Oreal, Paul Mitchell, TIGI, Clairol)Wet your hair with bottled spring water before stepping into a chlorinated pool.Use hats and scarves to protect your hair from the sun so as not to dull and dry hair.Use shampoos for color-treated hair. Lather and rinse lightly.Use color enhancing conditioners 2 to 3 times a week.Use hairsprays with moisturizers and sun-protective solution.Do not brush hair when wet and do not over dry. Avoid wrapping hair with a towel after stepping out of the shower. Dry it lightly and comb with a wide-tooth brush when using a dryer. Also, it’s always good to match your hair color with a new shade of nail polish on your fingernails and toes. Choose complimentary colors when getting a pedicure and manicure. But, nothing beats healthy looking nails with a simple French tip this season.Set an appointment and visit your nearest salon. Check out the other services they offer like waxing (brow, lip chin, legs, chest, bikini, belly, and back), spa treatment (facials), updo’s for special occasions, and makeovers. They also offer special packages for multiple treatments.

Flattering Hair Styles for Various Face Shapes

November 19th, 2009 hair extensions No comments

Are you due for a haircut at your favorite hair salon in South Tampa? If so, perhaps you are at a loss with all the many hair styles to choose from. Here are some tips on choosing hair styles that would be most flattering to your face shape.Hair Styles for Round FacesTo slim down a round face, the shortest you should go would be just below the chin. Ask for soft, graduated layers, preferably going longer. Wispy and tapered ends will stylishly complement the look. Long side-swept bangs will make a round face look narrower.Avoid sporting short curly hair as this will emphasize the roundness of your face. Short blunt cuts of one length all around will also have this effect.Hair Styles for Square FacesSo-called square faces have strong angular jaws. Best examples are Angelina Jolie, Gwyneth Paltrow, Rosario Dawson, Isabella Rosellini and Demi Moore. If you want short hair, you can soften the jaw with curls, spiky styles or choppy ends. For long hair, ask for layers from the jawline downwards.Avoid blunt cut bangs and one length bobs to the chin as these emphasize the jaws.Hair Styles for Oblong FacesOblong faces are longer than oval faces. Sarah Jessica Parker and Liv Tyler are good examples. To counteract the long shape, the illusion of width should be created. This can be done through curls and waves that add volume. Bangs that skim the brow also help. The best hair length would be to the chin. For longer hair, the style should be much shorter on the sides and longer towards the back.Avoid long hair of one length all over.Hair Styles for Heart-Shaped FacesHeart-shaped faces have pointy chins. Consider Katie Holmes, Reese Witherspoon and Rachel Bilson. Distract the eye from your chin by having bangs and add soft layers with movement at the sides of the face.Avoid blunt cut bangs and choppy layers.Hair Styles for Oval FacesThis is the perfect face shape. Examples are Jessica Alba and Kate Hudson. Those with oval faces look good in any hair style and hair length. Since you don’t have a problem with your face shape, consider the natural texture of your hair and go for the style that makes the most of it.Make sure that you get the proper instructions on how to style your new haircut in order to achieve the same look once at home. Stock up on the necessary hair styling and hair care products. Most salons would recommend products like TIGI and Paul Mitchell. If they have these for sale, you better take some home for convenience. You might also want to highlight your new hair style with color. The right placement of color can further boost the effect of certain hair styles on your face shape. If you have short hair and are impatient at having to grow it out, you can have the long hair look you want by asking for extensions. Your stylist may still have to trim your hair and the extensions to ensure proper blending in an appropriate style.Once you have the hair style you want, why not go all the way and avail of waxing, manicure and pedicure services, as well? That will complete your makeover and will really make you feel like a new and more beautiful person. Of course, the new hair style as well as the waxing, manicure and pedicure do not really change who you are. They do enhance what you have, though, and the resulting confidence will radiate from you like an inner glow.

Hair Color Correction at Home or at a Hair Salon in South Tampa

October 31st, 2009 hair extensions No comments

Sometimes getting the right haircut with a variety of options in hair styles, even with extensions, is just not enough. The right hair color is needed to give it the perfect finishing touch. There are also times, however, when hair color goes wrong. This often happens when hair color treatment is self applied at home or at a disreputable hair salon in South Tampa. Thankfully, hair color correction is still possible. Most professionals warn against using color removers available in drugstores as these can be too strong and may damage your hair unless applied by professional hair specialists. For those who have applied color that turns out too dark, they recommend waiting a few days for the color to naturally lighten after several shampoos. Some people advice using equal amounts of baking soda and dandruff shampoo and leaving the mixture on the hair for ten minutes. This is then rinsed out with a mixture of one thirds baking soda to two thirds hot water. Doing this for two to three times is supposed to quickly fade unwanted hair color. If your hair color turns out to be too red, you can do the abovementioned steps then follow it up by re-coloring using a light ash blonde. It is easier to correct hair color that is too light. You can apply a darker semi-permanent color over it. Take note, however, that you have previously bleached your hair and it is in a very vulnerable state, possibly heavily damaged. Applying even a gentle semi-permanent color over it may still be quite harsh. It would be much better to try more natural and mild alternatives for correcting over-bleached hair. You can darken it using a thick paste made of one half cup of cocoa mixed with plain yoghurt. After your regular shampoo, apply this to your hair and let it stay for five minutes before rinsing. Some darkening may already be seen after one application. Three applications will bring more dramatic results. An alternative to cocoa would be coffee or black tea. Be careful in the application, though, because all three substances can stain clothing permanently. For dull color, simply applying silicone products or spray on shine while styling may do the trick. Also use shine enhancing shampoo and conditioner for colored hair.It is still best to go to a reputable hair salon in South Tampa for your hair color correction. Be prepared for the fact that sometimes the color correction cannot be accomplished with just one visit, especially with severely damaged hair. Color correction will have to be done along with damage control. In some cases, fortunately, a simple application of a colorless gloss over dull hair color already works wonders. In other cases, weaving in highlights and lowlights solves the problem. If your hair is too damaged, though, it may not be able to absorb additional color even for correction. Perhaps your stylist can try to weave in hair extensions of a complementary to tone down your look. You will then just have to patiently wait while the damaged hair grows out and new healthier hair grows in.It would be even better to go straight to a reputable hair salon in South Tampa to get your hair color right in the first place. You can be sure to also get the best haircut with the widest selection of trendy and classic hair styles using only top of the line hair treatment products such as Paul Mitchell and TIGI. As a bonus for yourself, you may as well get a waxing and your manicure and pedicure for a complete makeover.

Looking for new hair styles or a completely different look?

Maybe you need a Gia Makeover!

When it comes to hair styles, there are so many different
options today to make changes. You can change your color, add
highlights, add bangs, add layering and even add length or
thickness with hair extensions. Makeovers are becoming more and
more popular as television shows such as ABC’s Extreme Makeover
outline how a makeover is done and drastic changes that can be
done. Hair stylist, Gia Wood of Salon D in Dallas, Texas
specializes in makeovers and hair extensions and is considered
Dallas’ makeover specialist. She has hundreds of clients locally
and many clients that fly or drive in to Dallas for her
services. One of her clients flies all the way from Spain just
to get her hair done. Gia says, “I find that clients who are
willing to drive or fly that far just to get their hair done are
the biggest compliment and the proof of my success.”

So what is this makeover fuss all about? Gia explains that most
of her clients have either been the victim of an inexperienced
stylist or have simply not thought enough about the change in
hairstyle they wanted and they are now stuck with something they
hate. Gia adds, “Most of my makeovers include color correction,
which can be highlights, color, gloss or all of the above.
Makeovers also include a haircut and style, along with makeup
application. The total process can take around 4 hours to
complete.”

Gia says, “When dealing with color correction, the first thing
every client asks me is ‘…how damaged will my hair be after a
color correction?’” Believe it or not, color correction is not
as damaging as it used to be. The old way of stripping hair
color out with bleach is history. Modern day products allow hair
stylists to remove ‘artificial pigment’ only, meaning that it
will not open, damage, or split the cuticle of the hair in any
way. This allows hairdressers to remove the most intense colors
from hair, and allow it to be re-colored in the same appointment
time.”

Gia will also offer suggestions for change in color and style to
fix any problems a client reports with their hair. “For example,
if a client has a brassy blonde color, I will suggest a bleach
highlight or an ash toner to offset the brass color.” She
explains.

Getting a successful makeover depends on the experience of the
stylist. Gia further explains, “My previous clients and even new
clients trust my experience level and let me do what ever I feel
like with their hair. Most of the time when I’m doing a
makeover, I am usually correcting another stylist’s color or
haircut. I usually ask my clients what or who they would like to
look like and to give a firm example of what they like and don’t
like. And, even if a client loves the way her hair looks, they
may be looking for a change to further improve their hair style.”

Photos of styles the client likes are very helpful to hair
stylists. Gia adds, “Clients and stylists have different
vocabularies. For example, Bangs. There are a thousand ways to
wear bangs.” Gia recommends bringing at least three photos of
the hair style you want so your stylist does not get confused.

Gia also keeps a computer at her work station to look up hair
styles online (such as a past hair style of a celebrity) if a
client does not have photos or cannot remember certain styles
they like. The computer eliminates the need for bulky portfolio
books.

“Once the client and I have decided on a style and color,” Gia
explains, “We discuss what it will take to get the clients hair
to that hair style.” Most of the time the exact cut and color
are achieved in one day. But Gia mentions that some clients that
are growing their hair out may take several months and
appointments to reach their overall goal. Human hair extensions
